TownBell

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-10

This policy describes what TownBell processes, what it stores, and what it deliberately doesn't. The short version: replays are processed transiently and not kept; your reports live in your browser; the server keeps only anonymous, aggregate game statistics, plus the minimum needed to prevent abuse.

Replay files

When you upload a replay, it is transmitted to our analysis service, parsed in memory, and discarded. We do not store the replay file, and we do not store the resulting report on our servers. The report is returned to your browser and saved there (IndexedDB), under your control. Deleting it in the app, or clearing your browser's site data, removes it permanently.

Anonymous aggregate statistics

For each analyzed game we keep one compact, anonymized record: the map, game duration, patch version, each player's civilization, ladder rating bracket where present, and a set of numeric performance metrics (for example age-up times and actions per minute). These records contain no player names, no chat, no IP addresses, and no link to you or your browser. They power the public community feed and the percentile benchmarks, both of which only ever show statistics computed across many games.

Abuse prevention

To keep a free, account-less service usable, upload requests are rate-limited by IP address. Rate-limit counters store a hashed time-window key and a number, and expire automatically within a day.

We also set one first-party cookie ('tb-cid') containing a random identifier. Its only purposes are to smooth rate limits for legitimate repeat visitors on shared networks and to distinguish your browser from others behind the same IP. It contains no personal information, is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking, and is not shared with anyone.

Analytics and advertising

If enabled by the site operator, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage (with IP anonymization), and Google AdSense to show advertising that keeps the service free. Both are provided by Google and use cookies or similar technologies; Google's use of data is described in Google's own privacy policy, and visitors in regions that require it will see a consent prompt before any advertising cookies are set. TownBell does not sell data to anyone.

Where data lives

The site is hosted on Vercel; aggregate statistics are stored in a Neon (PostgreSQL) database. Both providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy terms.

Your choices

You can use TownBell without an account and without providing any personal information. You can delete your locally stored reports at any time from the My Games page. You can block or clear the tb-cid cookie; the site keeps working, though shared-network rate limits may be stricter. For anything else, contact us and we'll help.
